A Conversation With Burning Man Founder Larry Harvey

I spoke with Burning Man founder Larry Harvey at his home in San Francisco in December 2009.  The theme of the interview was ‘gifting’, a practice in which the festival’s attendees give each other gifts–in the form of objects, food, entertainment, advice, and all sorts of creative things.  Money is not allowed at Burning Man (except for buying ice and 1 coffee shop), so gifting has become an important part of the culture.  Harvey also touched on other historical aspects of the event, which he created in 1986.

An excerpt of this conversation aired on Making Contact in January 2010.
