The police killing of a young black man in St. Petersburg Florida, came in the midst of a trial for another young black man killed by the cops.  Street violence broke out, and tensions were high, as a long-running distrust of law enforcement came to a head.

This story, which originally aired in May of 2004 on Free Speech Radio News, received an Honorable Mention-General Reporting award from the Mid Florida Society of Professional Journalists.
