A shelf of books at the library celebrating gay pride month set off a firestorm in Tampa, Florida, when the county commission voted to ban any government participation or acknowledgment of gay pride.

This story, which originally aired on Free Speech Radio News in June of 2005, was awarded the 2006 National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association/Seigenthaler Excellence in Radio Journalism award.
